Oxoid Acquires Dako Microbiology Business

Oxoid, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microbiological culture media and diagnostic tests, has announced its acquisition of the microbiology business of Dako. The purchase expands the Oxoid range of clinical microbiology products for the detection of viral gastroenteritis, sexually transmitted diseases, respiratory diseases, Lyme Disease and Helicobacter pylori and also includes a range of specialist ELISA tests for veterinary use.

From 1 September 2006, the Dako microbiology range will gradually be re-branded as Oxoid and products should be ordered via Oxoid’s headquarters in Basingstoke, UK or through Oxoid’s local sales offices. Oxoid will continue to manufacture the products in Ely, Cambridgeshire. OEM customers will continue to be serviced from the Ely site. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

The extended range of products now available from Oxoid includes:

• Viral Gastroenteritis; IDEIA™ ELISA kits for Adenovirus, Astrovirus, Norovirus and Rotavirus.
• ELISA and Immunochromatography kits for Helicobacter Pylori.
• Sexually Transmitted Disease: IDEIA™ ELISA and IMAGEN™ tests for Chlamydia and Herpes Simplex Virus, specimen collection and transport media.
• Lyme Disease: IDEIA™ ELISA Kits.
• IMAGEN™ Immunofluorescent tests for respiratory viruses
• Kits for use in the veterinary laboratory for the detection of Mycoplasma Hyopneumonia and Pasteurella Multocida Toxin.
• Antibodies to infectious agents and kits for direct antigen detection.
