OXOID SHOWS MANY NEW PRODUCTS AT IBMS EXHIBITION

Visitors to the Oxoid stand 402 at the Institute of Biomedical Scientists (IBMS) Congress and Exhibition, 26-28 September 2005 at the ICC in Birmingham, UK will be able to see the newest products to the Oxoid range including:

Biochemical Identification:

• RapID™: Easy to use test panels that provide accurate and reliable identification of the following micro-organisms in 2-4 hours:
  • RapID ONE (product code: 8311006) for Oxidase negative Enterobacteriaceae
  • RapID ANA II (product code: 8311002) for Anaerobic bacteria
  • RapID NF Plus (product code: 8311005) for Gram-negative glucose non-fermenters and other selected Gram-negative rods
  • RapID NH (product code: 8311001) for Neisseria and Haemophilus species
  • RapID CB Plus (product code: 8311008) for Corynebacterium species and other irregular Gram-negatives
  • RapID Yeast Plus (product code: 8311007) for Yeasts and related organisms
  • RapID STR (product code: 8311003) for Streptococci and related organisms
  • RapID SS/u (product code: 8311004) for Urinary Tract pathogens

Each panel incorporates a carefully selected series of biochemical tests directed towards a particular group of organisms. Unlike some alternative methods, the RapID range is not dependent on the growth of the organisms but detects specific constitutive enzymes.

• O.B.I.S. albicans (product code: ID0700M): A simple to use biochemical test that differentiates Candida albicans from other yeast species on standard diagnostic culture media in just one hour. The two-stage test detects the presence of two enzymes, ß-galactosaminidase and L-proline aminopeptidase. Both of these enzymes are produced by C. albicans, however one or both enzymes is absent in other yeast species. If both stages of the test produce a colour reaction, the result is presumptive positive for C. albicans. The absence of a colour reaction in either or both stages of the test indicates that the suspect colonies are not C. albicans.

Parasitology Tests:

• ProSpect ® ELISA assays for the direct detection of Cryptosporidium (product code: 2454025), Giardia (product code: 2458024), Entamoeba histolytica (product code: 2456048) from faecal specimens. With excellent sensitivity and specificity, the tests are not dependent on the presence of live organisms but detect antigen produced by the parasites within the gut. The simple and convenient method can be completed within 2 hours.

• Xpect™ rapid lateral flow tests for the direct detection of Cryptosporidium (product code: 2451020) and Giardia(product code: 2450020) from faecal specimens provides results in just 15 minutes. The speed, accuracy and ease-of-use of the Xpect™ range allows even the smallest laboratory to offer parasitology testing and is ideal for STAT testing in larger laboratories.
