ENSURING WATER QUALITY WITH OXOID CHROMOGENIC MEDIA

Oxoid Membrane Lactose Glucuronide Agar (MLGA) is a chromogenic media developed by Oxoid especially for the water industry. As one of the world’s leading suppliers of culture media, Oxoid is committed to the development of products that provide faster and easier bacterial identifications. The use of innovative chromogenic substrates within the Oxoid Chromogenic Media range provides the water industry with clearly visible answers on a single culture plate.

Chromogenic technology detects specific enzyme activity in target organisms - quickly and accurately. These enzymes cleave a colourless substrate in the medium, releasing colour molecules within the colonies of interest and allowing them to be clearly seen, differentiated and counted.

The extensive selection of Oxoid Chromogenic Media includes products developed specifically for the water industry, such as:

  • Oxoid Membrane Lactose Glucuronide Agar (MLGA) for the faster differentiation and enumeration of E. coli and other coliforms by a single membrane filtration technique. Oxoid MLGA eliminates the need for further confirmation of E. coli colonies, allowing E. coli results to be reported at an earlier stage.
  • Oxoid Membrane Clostridium perfringens (m-CP) Medium for the rapid isolation and presumptive identification of Clostridium perfringens from water samples. Colonies of C. perfringens are differentiated from those of other Clostridia spp. on this selective medium.
