Latest Issue of “Culture” – Oxoid’s Microbiology Journal – Now Available

The latest issue of Culture, Oxoid’s journal for microbiologists worldwide, has just been published. This issue (Vol 27, No 1) contains original articles on:

• Brucellosis – new paradigms for a classical pathogen, Sally J Cutler, Bacterial Zoonoses Research Team Leader, Statutory & Exotic Bacterial Diseases, Veterinary Laboratory Agency, UK.

This article provides background to brucellosis and its effect on livestock and mankind; the tools available for diagnosis; the species genomics; control strategies, and the current challenge of the growing incidence of Brucella melitensis infection in cattle.

• Clostridium difficile – new challenges from hyper-virulent strains, Ian R Poxton, Professor of Microbial Infection and Immunity, University of Edinburgh College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, UK.

With his article, Professor Poxton relates the history and the current problems that are associated with this disease and provides an overview of its pathogenesis and epidemiology.  He also gives recommendations for diagnostic laboratories and talks about issues surrounding infection control.
