Description
Cefoxitin is a cephamycin which is bactericidal through inhibition of cell wall synthesis.
A number of recent studies have indicated that the use of cefoxitin has a higher sensitivity and specificity than other compounds traditonally recommended for detecting mecA resistance in staphylococci.
Quality control
Known mecA positive and negative strains should be used to monitor performance.
