Rapidly detect leucine aminopeptidase activity in streptococci and related genera using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ LAP Disk with Reagent. In 1984, Colman and Ball reported that, unlike streptococci, Aerococcus species do not produce leucine aminopeptidase (LAP)1. Aerococcus strains were found to be consistently negative for leucine aminopeptidase, while strains of Enterococcus and Streptococcus gave positive reactions. LAP, in conjunction with PYR and other conventional tests, is an important parameter in the identification of Aerococcus, Leuconostoc, Pediococcus, and related genera2-4.

Leucine aminopeptidases (LAPs) are a diverse set of exopeptidases that catalyze the hydrolysis of leucine residues from the amino termini of proteins or peptides. LAPs are ubiquitous enzymes present among animals, plants, prokaryotes and microbes. The LAP test should be performed on pure or isolated cultures of catalase-negative, Gram-positive cocci which are 18-72 hours old.

  • Ready to use: Reagent-impregnated disc.
  • Rapid test: Results are obtained within 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Easy to identify: A color change from pink to red indicates a positive test whereas no color change or a slightly yellow color indicates a negative test.
