Ceftaroline Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test Discs
Ceftaroline discs are now available from the standard range at 5µg concentration (CT1942B) for the EUCAST methodology and 30µg (CT1941B) for use with the CLSI methodology. The discs are packed in boxes of 5, with each cartridge individually sealed to maintain the stability of the discs until they are required. In line with the rest of the cartridge range, ceftaroline is stored at -20-8°C.
Antibiotic Background Information:
Ceftaroline is a fifth generation cephalosporin antibiotic which prevents the cross linking in bacterial cell walls resulting in cell death. Ceftaroline has mainly Gram-positive activity including MRSA, VISA and VRSA, but also has activity against a range of common Gram-negative and anaerobic organisms.
Ceftaroline is primarily marketed to treat community acquired pneumonia and skin infections, it is administered intravenously in the prodrug format ceftaroline fosamil and is rapidly converted to the active compound in plasma.
