AUTOAGGLUTINATION
Occasionally some non-target bacterial strains may cause agglutination with a diagnostic kit test reagent. This is called non-specific agglutination or autoagglutination. For this reason, some of our diagnostic kits also contain a Control Reagent which is prepared from unsensitised latex particles or red blood cells.
It is important that bacterial strains are tested using both the
Test and Control Reagents so that the user can have confidence that a positive
result
indicates the presence of the target organism.
