DISPOSAL OF PREPARED MEDIA
It is likely that inoculated culture media will contain high numbers of micro-organisms which constitute a potential hazard. They must, therefore, be disposed of safely by approved methods.
Infected specimens and inoculated culture media should be handled by trained personnel only.
Any apparatus used and contaminated must be safely disinfected or sterilised. It is suggested that decontamination should be carried out by autoclaving at 121°C for 60 minutes.
After autoclaving, media may be disposed of through normal waste disposal
or incineration procedures. Media containing selenite should be disposed
of as Special Waste. If in doubt as to how to handle or dispose of any
specific medium consult the local waste disposal authority.
